Reconstruction of the Local Community Learning Center and Library After the construction of the middle and high school in Kyet Pha Hmwe Zaung is finished, we would like to continue with the development of this rural village and reconstruct the community center with its adjoining library. The 6m x 10m big one-room-building where community meetings and weddings were held, listed about 1000books which could be lent or read in the premises. The village women would take turns in being librarians on an honorary basis. After Nargis the village had no money to set this building up again. Asked if additionally to the reconstruction there would be the need to purchase books, we were reassured that this was not an issue because each villager would buy a book and donate it to the library and in a very short time there would again be 1000 or more books. Once again we were impressed how much emphasis this Delta-community puts on educational issues. Although KPHZ has a local council, the Buddhist monk Badanta Ottama, is regarded by everybody as the leading authority. It is mainly because of him that the community is so strongly engaged in education matters and this motivates us to help more. © 2008 - Myanmar Development Aid e.V.
