A Boys Orphanage was launched in November 2009. It is located in the Thanlyin Township about 45 minutes drive northeasterly of Yangon. The two-storey building stands on a site of about 12 000 square meters and can accommodate up to 150 children. The purchase of the land and the construction of the building were financed by a private donor. The partners of ″Myittar Yaung Chi″ are Uniteam Marine Yangon (UMY) and Myanmar Development Aid (MDA). Capt. Jerzy Wilk, Managing Director of UMY and his colleagues have monitored the building process, and the furnishing as well as the employment of qualified staff members. In October 2009 the first group of boys aged from 5 to 10 moved in and in turn more boys are to follow. They come from different regions of Myanmar. Some of them still have the one parent who is too poor to raise the child alone. The boys are being assigned to the orphanage by the public authority which also inspects Myittar Yaung Chi. The children are attending school in the nearby village and will live in the orphanage until they finish their education and have been assisted in finding suitable employment. In MDA this excellently built and run orphanage is a project of high priority and we fully support it. Your donations are most welcome! © 2008 - Myanmar Development Aid e.V.
